The new Yeti SB140 trail bike boasts 140mm of frame travel and an updated Switch Infinity linkage

The new Yeti SB140 features 140mm of frame travel and a revised Switch Infinity linkage, as seen in the recently revealed SB160 and SB120.

New trail bike replaces the outgoing SB140 and SB130. It is similar in rear stroke to the previous model, but was developed around a Wheel size 29 inchessame as SB130. However, the SB140LR will also be available with 27.5-inch wheel sizes.

The model will be available in two types of builds (SB140 and SB140LR) and two types of modules for the carbon frame. Availability is from January 20, 2023.

The Lunch Ride (LR) will feature a more aggressive 160mm front fork, as opposed to the 150mm SB140. Other differences include beefier tires and more powerful brakes on the Lunch Ride.

Update geometry

The new frame has a revised geometry and a new carbon distribution.

SB140

Yeti has increased the front center by 7mm, from 795mm on the previous model to 802mm on the new SB140 in the large size. The reach remains similar, increasing by 0.5 mm.

Like all recent Yeti models, the SB140 will have chainstay lengths and seat tube angles to match the size. Chainstay lengths range from 436mm to 444mm to provide proportional geometry across all sizes.

Actual seat tube angles range from 72.2 degrees to 73.7 degrees, but the effective seat tube angle remains the same across all sizes – 77.5 degrees – depending on seat height.

Seat tube lengths have been shortened to accommodate longer hangers on all models. Yeti has added an extra-extra large frame and removed the extra small from its lineup. The new small size has a 10mm longer seat tube than the previous extra small. The head tube angle remains at 65 degrees.

SB140LR

Similar to the SB140, the SB140LR has a longer front center than its predecessor, growing 6mm from 800mm to 806mm on the oversized frame. The range is slightly shorter by 0.1 mm.

Chainstay lengths range from 436mm to 444mm, again to provide proportional geometry. Seat tube angles range from 71.8 degrees to 73.3 degrees with an effective seat tube angle of 77 degrees. The head tube angle remains at 65 degrees.

The Lunch Ride will also be available with 27.5-inch wheels. Yeti hasn’t said any information about the changes it will make to the geometry.

SB140 and SB140LR suspension details

The Lunch Ride has a Float X rear shock.

Both bikes will have 140mm of frame travel with a 14% leverage ratio controlled by the Yeti Switch Infinity suspension system. The SB140LR will use Fox Float X, as opposed to the Float DPS seen on the SB140.

The system works by mounting the main pivot on the “shuttle”. The shuttle moves up and down on two Kashima-coated struts recessed into the frame, providing rear axle travel for suspension travel. Yeti says this improves pedaling performance.

The T series will feature an updated Switch Infinity system.

Yeti says it changed the frame architecture by putting the Switch Infinity in a tighter package. Ground clearance and “chassis” stiffness are said to have increased with the redesign.

The T-series models will feature an updated Switch Infinity system, which Yeti says will have improved seals, bearings and hardware.

Frame improvements

Yeti has redesigned the downtube protection and now uses a two-layer system. The rubber bottom cover is said to provide cushion against the frame, while the outer hard cap provides impact protection. The system is replaceable and the hard cover is removable for easy cable routing.

Yeti claims to have eliminated cable rattling and chafing by mounting secure ports on the inner cable tubes.

The threaded aluminum bottom bracket is now pressed into the carbon layer of the frame as seen on the new SB160 and SB120. Yeti says this makes the interface more durable and easier to operate.

Five build options will be available for the SB140. Three of them will be built on the top frame of the Turq series with a higher modulus. The other two will use a C-series frame. The T-series wheels will also get a Fox Transfer dropper.

All SB140s will feature Fox 36 forks with 150mm of travel and will be available in Turquoise, Sangria, Sage and Raw Carbon.
